The Broyhill Family Timeline

The Broyhill Family timeline dates back to the birth of James Edgar Broyhill ("J.E."), the founder of Broyhill Furniture Industries to the birth of James Thomas Broyhill, the great-grandson of J.E. Broyhill, and the founder of JB by James Broyhill, which launched in 2020.

1892: James Edgar Broyhill (known as “J.E.”) is born in Wilkes County, North Carolina.

1919: After serving the country in World War I, J.E. Broyhill joins his older brother Tom and learns the furniture trade in Lenoir, N.C.

1926: J.E. Broyhill establishes his own furniture company, Lenoir Chair Company, which later becomes Broyhill Furniture Industries.

1930-1940: J.E. purchases five furniture factories hit hard by The Great Depression.

1950-1970: Bolstered by the post-World War II economic boom, Broyhill Furniture Industries becomes one of the largest employers in N.C., exceeding $75 million in annual sales revenue.

1981: Broyhill Furniture Industries is sold to Interco (later becoming Furniture Brands International).

1983: J.E. Broyhill’s great-grandson, James Thomas Broyhill II, is born in Winston-Salem, N.C.

2013: Following in his great-grandfather’s footsteps, James leaves his 9-5 job to establish Heritage Handcrafted, a direct-to-consumer niche home decor and accessories manufacturing company, which launched to successful sales as well as press and editorial coverage in several top national publications.

2014: Heritage Handcrafted’s authenticity and genuine persona, combined with its consistent output of artisan-made quality products at scale, gains the attention of well-known brands for collaborative partnerships.

2015: Heritage Handcrafted becomes the go-to source for custom home decor amongst established brands and celebrities, growing its “bourbon lifestyle” consumer base among the likes of the Pappy Van Winkle Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniels Distilleries, and country music star Eric Church.

2020: Powered by the proven business model of the Heritage Handcrafted brand, JB by James Broyhill is soft launched in 2019, with an official launch in 2020. JB by James Broyhill offers a complete suite of lifestyle brand marketing services and becomes a trusted lead generation platform.
